Set within the Mojave Desert, Dolan Springs has a character that invites stillness and perspective. Open sky, warmth, quiet, and distance from the intensity of a city can create space for people to listen, pray, rest, reconnect, and consider what comes next.
The community stands near remarkable Joshua tree country, including the Grapevine Mesa forest, and within reach of major Southwestern population centers while retaining a distinct rural identity.
The desert is not an escape from real life. It can become a place where a person is finally able to face it with support.
THE NEED
Rural distance changes what care requires.
In rural communities, a shortage of qualified services is compounded by transportation barriers, limited local infrastructure, long travel distances, aging populations, caregiver strain, and the difficulty of maintaining continuing support after an immediate crisis.
Dolan Springs also faces serious unmet needs associated with addiction, recovery, family stability, health access, disability, and aging. The Center’s vision is not to present the community as a problem to be solved from outside. It is to listen, build relationships, strengthen local capacity, and connect rural residents with wider networks of knowledge and care.
THE OPPORTUNITY
A destination that can also strengthen its home community.
If developed responsibly, the Center could create more than a place of healing. It could contribute employment, training, partnerships, visitation, purchasing, volunteer engagement, transportation capacity, and stronger connections between rural needs and regional resources.
Dolan Springs is the proposed initial location, not a finalized operating site. Property, services, licenses, clinical leadership, partnerships, safeguards, and funding remain to be established.
